Zinc is essential to good health and is found in every cell of the body. It is involved in many enzymatic reactions, and plays an important role in the body’s antioxidant defences against free radicals. Zinc is also important for healthy skin and is involved in normal oil gland function and the repair of wounds and other skin problems. Consequently zinc supplements may provide extra support for acne-prone skin, slow-healing wounds, and minor skin problems.

Adequate intake of zinc is also important for immunity, which may be compromised if zinc levels are low. Zinc helps maintain the senses of vision, taste and smell, and low levels may contribute to problems with taste or smell. Zinc plays an essential role in the male reproductive tract, where it is involved in the production of healthy sperm.

Blackmores Bio Zinc, zinc is accompanied by vitamin A (which is also required for healthy immune function and the maintenance of healthy skin), manganese (which works with zinc to support the body’s antioxidant defences), and magnesium and vitamin B6 (both of which are involved in zinc metabolism).

  • FAQ's Zinc Supplement
What are the benefits of taking a zinc?
Zinc supports immune function, wound healing, skin health, cognitive function, and hormonal balance. It also plays a role in cell repair and helps the body fight off infections.
How do I know if I need a zinc supplement?
Signs of low zinc levels can include frequent illnesses, slow wound healing, acne or skin issues, poor sense of taste or smell, and fatigue. A blood test or advice from a healthcare provider can help determine if you’re deficient.
When is the best time to take zinc?
Zinc is best taken with food to avoid stomach upset. Avoid taking it at the same time as calcium, iron, or high-fibre foods, as these can interfere with absorption.
Can I take zinc every day?
Yes, zinc can be taken daily at recommended doses. Most adults need 8–15mg per day, but short-term higher doses (e.g. during illness) may be used with professional guidance. Long-term high intake may interfere with copper absorption.
Are there different types of zinc supplements?
Yes—common forms include zinc gluconate, zinc picolinate, zinc citrate, and zinc bisglycinate. Some are better absorbed or gentler on the stomach. Your choice may depend on your goals and any sensitivities.
